No. 18 Cal Defeats University of San Diego, 6-1

BERKELEY, CA - The California men's tennis team returned to the Bay Area on Wednesday and treated the fans to a homecoming victory over the 49th ranked San Diego Toreros, 6-1, at Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley. The Bears are now a perfect 4-0 in front of the home crowd this season.
The Bears took two out of three in the doubles matches, winning the point, with John Paul Fruttero and Robert Kowalczyk losing to Juan Cerda and Jason Pongsrikul, 8-3, in the lone doubles win for the Toreros. The other two doubles matches saw some exciting tennis as both Bears' doubles teams pulled out the wins. Chase Exon and Wayne Wong pulled out an impressive 9-7 victory over the pair of Martin Linusson and Rob Blair while Ben Miles and Balazs Veress narrowily defeated Martin Linusson and Rob Blair, 8-6.
In the singles portion of the afternoon, Fruttero dropped the Torero's top player in Ricardo Rizo by a 7-5, 6-4 mark. In addition, four other Bears won in straight sets, including a narrow 7-6 (4), 6-2 rebound victory for Miles. The Toreros lone point of the day came in a straight set victory for SDSU's Pongsrikul , 6-4, 6-1, over Cal freshman Conor Niland.
Cal travels to Palo Alto on Saturday, February 23 to take on Stanford at 3:00 p.m. in the Bears' Pac-10 season opener.
