CORVALLIS, Ore. - Gymnasts Christa Piazza and Elizabeth Jillson have been named the U.S. Bank Woman of Distinction honorees for January and December, respectively, it was announced Wednesday.

The award is given to Oregon State female student-athletes for excellence in leadership, scholarship and community involvement.

Piazza, the January honoree, is a freshman gymnast from Wilsonville, Ore. In her short time at Oregon State, Piazza has become highly involved in community activities. At the United Way Kickoff Luncheon, she greeted volunteers and ran games, and she signed autographs at the Corvallis Fall Festival. Piazza also helped work the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) food drive at an OSU football game last season, and she worked at a gymnastics clinic for children in December.

An exercise and sport science major, Piazza carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Jillson, the winner for December, is a junior gymnast from Herald, Calif. Like her teammate, Jillson has been active in the community. She also worked the United Way luncheon, the Corvallis Fall Festival and the gymnastics clinic with the Old Mill School. Last year, she also served as a lunch buddy with a student at a local elementary school. Jillson is an active member of SAAC, serving as the student-athlete welfare committee chairperson.

A liberal studies major, Jillson has a 3.33 grade point average and was an honorable mention Pacific-10 All-Academic Team selection as a sophomore. In the gym, Jillson is a standout on the uneven bars. She has won the event four times in six meets this season and has scored a 9.90 or better four times this year.
