This Week -- The No. 15 USC women's tennis team (4-3) hosts No. 44 Arizona and No. 7 Arizona State this week at Marks Tennis Stadium. On Friday, Feb. 22, the Women of Troy face the Wildcats at 1:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 23, they take on the Sun Devils at Noon. Neither match will count against conference records. USC is coming off a 5-2 victory over Loyola Marymount on Feb. 15.

Against Arizona, Arizona State -- USC owns a 32-15 all time record against Arizona. Last season, the Trojans defeated the Wildcats twice, both by 5-2 scores. The Women of Troy own a 29-18 advantage against Arizona State. Last season, USC was swept by the Sun Devils who won each match by a 6-1 score.

The Trojans' Last Outing -- USC defeated No. 64 Loyola Marymount 5-2 on Feb. 15. The Women of Troy began the match with two doubles victories at the No. 1 and 2 positions to secure the doubles point, but each match was competitive. The Lions managed to garner a win at No. 3 as Julie Hladik and Edit Pakay defeated new doubles pair Maureen Diaz and Melissa Esmero, 8-6. With a 1-0 lead, the USC victory was secured as Jewel Peterson, Luana Magnani and Tiffany Brymer grabbed the next three points. Both Peterson and Brymer did so with comeback efforts, defeating LMU's Andrea Lord and Hladik in three sets each. Magnani easily defeated Penka Fileva at No. 2. Senior Caroline Christian was pushed to a third set at No. 6 but also came away with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 win over LMU's Georgie Dinham for the Trojans' final point.

News N' Notes -- Maureen Diaz's six-match win streak came to an end with a three-set loss to LMU's Edit Pakay on Feb. 15 *** Freshman Luana Magnani currently owns the team's best singles record with a 19-5 mark *** Magnani and junior Anita Loyola boast the team's best doubles record at 13-5.

Head Coach Richard Gallien -- Richard Gallien enters his seventh season at the helm of the USC women's tennis program. Last season he guided the 2001 Trojans to a 20-8 overall record, a No. 8 final team ranking and a quarterfinal appearance at the NCAAs. Gallien began his career at Pepperdine, coaching the men's team for three years, before joining the Trojan family. Over the last nine years, he has compiled a 161-86 (.652) overall record and his teams have made six appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including three consecutive appearances in the NCAA quarterfinals.
