No. 12 Arizona Gymnastics Handles Washington

Tucson, Ariz. (Feb. 22) - The No. 12 University of Arizona women's gymnastics team grabbed its third Pac-10 victory of the year by defeating the Washington Huskies, 195.550- 193.225, on Friday, in front of a crowd of 905 in McKale Center. The Wildcats posted their third-highest team mark of the season (195.550) to remain undefeated at home. Arizona improved to 8-3, 3-2 Pac-10, while Washington fell to 3-4, 2-3 Pac-10.
Arizona won its seventh team vault title of the season, posting a new team record 49.400 in the event. The Wildcats earned their fifth team floor title of the year, tying a team record mark of 49.475 and took top team honors on beam (48.050). Five Wildcat gymnasts - Nikki Beyschau, Monica Bisordi, Lindsay Compitello, Randi Liljenquist and Jamie Schell - each set or tied season-high and career-high marks in Friday's meet.
Individually for the Wildcats, senior Randi Liljenquist finished first on beam (9.825), on floor with a season-high 9.975 and placed second in the all-around (39.050). Liljenquist, sophomore Andi McCabe and freshman Jamie Schell shared top honors on vault (9.900). Schell also tied for fourth place on floor (9.850)
Freshman Monica Bisordi won her second-career all-around title with a score of 39.100. Bisordi placed third on floor (9.875), fourth on vault (9.875) and fifth on bars with a career-high 9.775. Junior Nikki Beyschau tied for second on bars with a season-high 9.825. Freshman Katie Johnson finished second on floor (9.950) and on beam (9.775), and sophomore Sheehan Lemley placed fifth on beam (9.625).
'I'm very happy to see our team do so well on vault and floor,' head coach Bill Ryden said. 'Our gymnasts were a little shaky and tentative tonight on bars and on beam. We need to hit on all four events to continue our success through the rest of the season.'
Arizona travels to Tempe, Ariz., to take on rival No. 16 Arizona State on Friday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. (MST).
