Felicia Ragland Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week
Feb. 25, 2002
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State University senior Felicia Ragland was named the Pacific-10 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 18-24, announced Commissioner Tom Hansen on Monday.
Ragland, a 5-9 guard, averaged 21.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as the Beavers swept the Washington schools on the road. The two victories propelled Oregon State into a tie fourth place in the conference and earned the Beavers the No. 5 seed in the inaugural Pac-10 Tournament, which will be held Mar. 1-4 at the University of Oregon.
On the week, Ragland shot 47.2 percent from the field (17-of-26) and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line. She extended her consecutive free throws made streak to a school record-tying 19.
In OSU's 73-71 overtime win at University of Washington on Feb. 21, Ragland led all scorers with 25 points, adding six assists and going 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. She helped Oregon State hand the Huskies only their second Pac-10 home loss of the season. Against Washington State on Feb. 23, the Tulare, CA, native notched a game-high 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting and a 2-for-2 clip from the free throw line.
The road sweep of the Washington schools was just the second for Oregon State (15-13, 11-7 Pac-10) since Pac-10 play began in 1986-87. The Beavers' fourth-place tie qualifies as their best Pac-10 finish since the 1995-96 season and helped secure a second consecutive winning season.
The Player of the Week honor is the third of Ragland's career and the 24th selection of all-time for Oregon State.
OSU will face nemesis University of Southern California on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. in Eugene, OR. The Women of Troy swept the season series with the Beavers by a combined total of six points. For Pac-10 Tournament tickets, contact University of Oregon at 1-800-WEBFOOT.
