Softball Player/Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA STATE shortstop Kara Brun has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week while STANFORD's Tori Nyberg was named Pitcher of the Week for February 19 - 24, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Brun, from Glendale, Ariz., batted .500 (8-for-16) with three runs scored, three home runs, eight RBI and one double. She also tallied 18 total bases, a 1.125 slugging percentage and a .529 on-base percentage. In Arizona State's win over 19th-ranked Notre Dame, Brun hit two home runs, including a walk-off two-run shot with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. In her next game against 10th-ranked Michigan, Brun hit a three-run homer to put the Sun Devils up 6-0. The blast would later turn out to be the difference in a 6-4 victory over the Wolverines.
For the season, Brun is batting .365 with nine runs scored, four home runs and 16 RBI.
Nyberg, from Belmont, Calif., made four starts at last weekend's NFCA Leadoff Classic, earning three wins against nationally ranked teams (#14 CS Fullerton - twice, #13 Fresno State). At the tournament, Nyberg allowed just 13 hits and struck out 23 batters .
Overall, Nyberg is 8-1 on the season with an 0.49 ERA. She has 56.2 innings pitched under her belt, allowing just 24 hits while striking out 57 batters.
It is the first weekly honor for Brun and the 34th for Arizona State all-time. Nyberg also earns the first award of her career. Stanford has now received 16 honors all-time.
