SCOUTING THE TIGERS: The University of the Pacific (10-3) comes into the weekend riding a No. 12 ranking and a three-game win streak in which they beat UNLV twice and No. 15 DePaul. The Tigers have won nine of thier last 10, with the only setback at the hands of DePaul in the teams' first meeting. Pacific also owns wins over nationally-ranked California and Michigan. Junior Barbara Moody leads the team offensively with a .419 average, while senior Cindy Ball has a 1.18 ERA in 53 1/3 innings pitched. Pacific faces No. 13 Fresno State Wednesday.
SCOUTING THE AZTECS: Sarah Hershman leads San Diego State (9-9) with a .365 clip from the plate, while Jessica Green heads the pitching staff with a 2.00 ERA in 36 innings. SDSU began the season in the top 25, but has fallen out after recent losses. Three starters are batting over .300, including Green, and Tiffany Goudy leads the squad with 11 RBI. Opponents are outbatting the Aztecs by a .248-.231 margin, and have a sizeable advantage in homeruns at 9-5.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS: Minnesota enters the weekend with only one loss to counter its 11 wins. Three Gophers with 36 or more at-bats are hitting .381 or better. From the mound, Piper Marten boasts an 8-0 record and a stunning 0.47 ERA in 45 innings pitched. Angie Recknor has a 0.97 ERA in 29 innings. The staff as a whole sports a 0.84 ERA and allows opponents to hit at a .146 clip. Minnesota has yet to face a ranked team this year.
SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS: OSU (9-2) has five starters batting .333 or better after 11 games, including three hitting at a .400 average or better. The Cowgirls have outscored their last three opponents (Eastern Oklahoma State twice, and Tulsa) by a combined 29-2 margin. OSU has outscored opponents 29-4 in the fourth inning and 18-3 in the sixth. OSU's losses came to Iowa (2-0) and No. 8 Arizona State (1-0). Lauren Bay has a 6-1 record and a 1.34 ERA in 47 innings of work.
SCOUTING THE TITANS: Cal State-Fullerton (8-7) has faced a tough schedule thus far, having taken on six top-20 programs and dropping all but one, beating No. 25 Massachusetts. CSUF also faces No. 1 UCLA in a double-header Wednesday. Monica Lucatero bats at a .361 average to lead the team. Gina Oaks has a 0.91 ERA in 36 1/3 innings. CSUF holds opponents to a .191 batting average while batting .256 as a team, but has been outscored 60-37. In the Titans' eight wins, they have outscored opponents 51-9. In their seven losses, they have been outscored 29-9.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS: San Jose State (5-6) has won five of its last six after dropping its first five contests. SJSU's team batting average is .207, while opponents bat .270. Carol Forbes leads the pitching staff with a 2.03 ERA in 31 innings.
