Reed Wins Pole Vault in Nebraska Last Chance Qualifier

March 2, 2002

LINCOLN, Neb. - Redshirt junior Niki Reed paced a pair of Duck women's pole vaulters who ended the indoor track and field regular season Saturday in the Nebraska Last Chance Qualifier.

Reed won the competition by almost six inches with her NCAA automatic mark of 13-5 1/4 (4.10m), edging Oklahoma's Leslie Dunlap (second, 12-11 3/4).

Reed's mark Saturday was just short of her season best and school record of 13-9 3/4, also cleared by redshirt junior Becky Holliday earlier in the season.

Sophomore Kirsten Riley followed in a tie for seventh place (11-8), not improving on her season best and NCAA provisional mark of 12-10 from earlier in the season.

Next weekend, Reed and Holliday end the indoor season in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 8-9 in Fayetteville, Ark.

Closer to home Saturday, a majority of the Duck women are scheduled to compete in the Linfield Icebreaker Saturday in McMinnville, Ore.
