March 3, 2002

FULLERTON, Calif. - -

The No. 11 Oregon State softball squad opened its game with Oklahoma State at the CSUF Worth tournament Saturday night with two runs in the first, and then shut down the Cowgirls for a 2-0 win thanks to sophomore Monica Hoffman's first career no-hitter.

The Beavers (18-6) got an RBI single from freshman Kelly Petersen in the first inning to bring in Clare Burnum from second base, and then scored another run on the same play when the Oklahoma State left fielder made an errant throw.

'This was a great game,' OSU coach Kirk Walker said. 'Monica threw a no-hitter against a very tough team. We came up with clutch hits as well - Clare Burnum and Kelly Petersen in particular.'

Burnum was 2-for-3, as was Steph Adams.

Hoffman is now 2-0 at the tournament, having defeated No. 12 Pacific on Friday, and 5-1 on the year.
