TUCSON -- Southern Mississippi's Jessica Holoway threw a three-hit shutout topace the Golden Eagles to a 1-0 victory over Evansville in final-roundaction at Arizona's Hillenbrand Invitational softball tournament.
USM's typical pace of play was altered slightly by the team's eagernessto finish the game within 90 minutes in order to catch a flight home.
The Golden Eagles might have had to forfeit the contest if they couldn'tcontinue play to its full conclusion.
Kenya Peters doubled in the top of the second and scored on a single byKristie Martin to give USM a 1-0 lead.
Jesssica Holoway struck out seven consecutive batters in the firstthree innings and had 10. The Purple Aces threatened in the seventh withtwo singles to put a runner in scoring position, but Holoway struck outTrish Wetzel to end the game.
The Golden Eagles (9-9) finished 3-2 in tourney action while Evansville(10-12) was 1-4.
