Jamie Dantzscher Selected UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week
March 4, 2002
Sophomore Jamie Dantzscher (San Dimas, Calif./San Dimas HS) of the UCLA Gymnastics Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 25-Mar. 3.
With three perfect 10s Sunday afternoon, Dantzscher helped the Bruins score a school-record team total of 198.35 to win the UCLA Invitational for the 11th straight year. Dantzscher earned perfect marks on vault (her second of the season), bars (her first of the season and third in her career) and floor (her seventh consecutive and 12th career) and added a career-high tying 9.9 on beam (third place) to total a career-high all-around score of 39.9.
Earlier in the week at Washington, Dantzscher took first place on the only two events on which she competed - bars (9.975) and beam (9.875).
Dantzscher becomes only the third gymnast in NCAA history to score three 10s in one meet, joining former teammate Mohini Bhardwaj (2001) and Georgia's Karin Lichey (1996). Dantzscher's all-around score of 39.9 is the fourth-highest in NCAA history, topped only by a 40.0 from Lichey, a 39.975 from Bhardwaj and a 39.95 from Utah's Suzanne Metz in 1995.
Dantzscher has now earned a school-record 17 perfect 10s in her career, including 10 this season.
This is Dantzscher's third UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and the fourth of her career.
