March 8, 2002
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Oregon softball squad continued it's winning ways on Friday, picking up two wins at the UNLV Tournament. The Ducks blanked Boston College 3-0 in the early game and then put away UNLV, 6-4 as an encore.
Against Boston College, the Ducks continued to get run support from junior Andrea Vidlund, who homered in the third and had three runs batted in. Freshman standout Lindsey Kontra kept the Eagles at bay with seven innings of mastery, giving up four hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.
'We played extremely well,' said Oregon head coach Brent Rincon. 'And we got tremendous pitching.'
In the second game versus UNLV, Oregon got two more RBI's from Vidlund, and three from senior Kristi Hall. Sophomore Anissa Meashintubby pitched four and a third innings and earned four strikeouts. Senior Connie McMurren held off a UNLV charge and picked up the save with two and a two-thirds innings shutout and five strikeouts.
'We came out and swung the bats,' said Rincon. 'I'm proud of the way we kept our composure and intensity through the whole game.'
Oregon's record improves to 13-7. The Ducks continue play in the UNLV Tournament on Saturday.
