Trojans Sweep Through Duck Lineup

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 15-ranked USC women's tennis team -- coming off its upset-victory over UCLA on Thursday -- experienced no letdown as the team swept through the Oregon lineup in a 7-0 win Friday afternoon at Marks Tennis Stadium. With the win, the Women of Troy improve to 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the Pac-10. Oregon falls to 7-8 and 0-5 in conference play.

The Trojans won all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the afternoon. USC earned decisive wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions but had to win in a tiebreaker at court three. Bernadette Bayani and Melissa Esmero recorded the 9-8 decision.

Luana Magnani and Esmero were the next to earn wins for USC, holding Oregon's Davina Mendiburu and Adeline Arnaud scoreless for 6-0, 6-0 victories at courts two and six. Positions three, four and five were also decided in two sets, putting the Women of Troy ahead 6-0. Eighth-ranked Jewel Peterson was the last off the court as she made comeback effort to defeat the Ducks' Janice Nyland, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 1 spot.

USC will next travel to face San Diego State on Wednesday, March 13, at 2 p.m. in San Diego.
