Women's Tennis Drops Tough Road Match to UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of Oregon women's tennis team ran into a tough No. 8-ranked UCLA squad on Saturday, losing to the Bruins, 7-0.

Oregon junior Monika Gieczys and senior Vickie Gunnarsson battled in three-set matches before falling to the Bruins. Gieczys was defeated by UCLA's Petya Marinova, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Gunnarsson fell to Lauren Fisher of the Bruins, 6-0, 4-6, 7-6, at No. 4.

'We played a pretty good match,' said Oregon assistant coach Nils Schyllander. 'Despite the score, I felt like we competed well. We are definitely showing signs of playing really good tennis.'

Up next, the Ducks travel to Orlando, Florida to take on Central Florida on March 25.
