Softball's Jessica Mendoza Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - No. 3 Stanford softball's Jessica Mendoza (Camarillo, Calif.) has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week for games played from March 5 - 10, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Mendoza batted 9-for-19 (.474) this weekend in six starts at the Speedline Invitational in Tampa, Fla. Additionally, Mendoza scored 10 runs while tallying four home runs, six RBI, a double, two triples and a stolen base. For her efforts, she was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player as the Cardinal went undefeated (6-0)in that event.
Earlier in the week against Baylor, the three-time First Team All-American went 1-3 with a triple and an RBI.
Overall this season, Mendoza is hitting .419 and leads the team in runs (32), home runs (7), total bases (70) and stolen bases (12). She also has an .814 slugging percentage.
It is the fifth weekly honor for Mendoza and the 17th for Stanfordall-time. Tori Nyberg (Belmont, Calif.) was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for games played between Feb. 19-25 for the Cardinal as well.
UCLA's Keira Goerl was named this week's Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week.
The Cardinal (26-2) will battle BYU in a doubleheader at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium on Saturday, Mar. 23 at 12 p.m.
