Undaunted by a persistent snowstorm, Washington's track and field squads created flurries of their own Saturday, winning 25 of 34 events against collegiate and club squads from througout the Northwest at the outdoor home-opening Husky Classic Track and Field Meet at Husky Stadium.

While the snow failed to halt events on the track, several field events were moved into Dempsey Indoor, Washington's practice facility, for safety reasons.

Senior Kelsey Sheppard was seemingly unaffected by the poor conditions, winning the 400-meter hurdles in a Pac-10 qualifying 59.95 seconds, less than a second shy of the NCAA's provisional-qualifying standard.

Joining Sheppard at the Pac-10 meet will be sophomore Preston Brashers, who pumped his fist in celebration after earning his first-career win with a time of 15:03.53 in the 5,000 meters. Other conference qualifiers were junior Kate Bradshaw in the 10,000 meters (17:03.28), sophomore Seth Jens in the javelin (203-7) and sophomore Brad Goodrich in the 400m hurdles (53.03).

Washington takes to the road next week, opening Pac-10 competition with the University of California Quad in Berkeley, Calif. on Mar. 23.
