UCLA Women's Track Defeats Washington State and Cal

Coach Jeanette Bolden's women's team won the triangular meet with 148 points (Washington State - 136, Cal - 112). Bolden improved her dual meet streak to 65-0, defeating Washington State, 106-92, and Cal, 111-84. The Bruins were victorious in 11 events against Washington State and Cal. The top-performers on the day were Darnesha Griffith, Jessica Cosby, Candice Baucham, Karen Bewley, Chaniqua Ross, Lena Nilsson, Monique Henderson, Sheena Johnson and Tiffany Burgess.

Senior Darnesha Griffith, the 2002 NCAA Indoor High Jump champion, won the long jump with a personal best mark of 19-7 (5.97m)(+1.3w). Sophomore Jessica Cosby won the shot put with a throw of 54-3.25 (16.54m). In the triple jump, freshman Candice Baucham was victorious with a jump of 40-11 (12.47)(+1.0w). Karen Bewley vaulted 12-00 (3.66m) to finish first in the pole vault. And, junior Chaniqua Ross won the discus with a throw of 172-4 (52.52m).

True freshman Monique Henderson led the Bruins in the running events, winning the 100m and 200m in 11.64 (+0.3) and 24.00 (+1.4). Lena Nilsson, member of the Bruins' indoor championship distance medley relay team, won the 3000m in 9:37.28. Sophomore Sheena Johnson won the 400m hurdles in 57.60 and Tiffany Burgess, also a member of the Bruins' championship distance medley relay, won the 1500m in a hand time of 4:32.9.

Also winning for the Bruins was the 4x400m Relay team of Nicole Gaskins, T'Carra Penick, Adia McKinnon and Bunmi Ogunleye, winning in 3:43.51.
