Men's Tennis Competes At The Pepperdine Invitational

ON TAP: The Arizona State men's tennis team (7-4, 1-0 Pac-10) will travel to Malibu, California to compete in the Pepperdine Invitational, Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24. The Sun Devils will face host and 11th-ranked Pepperdine (12-4) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., while TCU and Washington will square off prior to the ASU dual at 10:00 a.m. The winners of the two opening duals will face each other on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. while the losers will play in the morning at 10:00 a.m.
LAST TIME ON THE COURT: Arizona State claimed a 4-3 home win over Florida State. The Sun Devils started off the match strong taking two of the three doubles matches for the first point. Matt Klinger and Mitchell Bowen posted a victory on the No. 1 court, defeating Xavier Luscan and Rodrigo Laub, 8-5. Olivier Charroin and Chris Stewart won on the No. 2 court, defeating Alex Herrera and Jarrod Owen, 8-6. In singles action, the Devils continued their winning streak taking wins on the No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6 courts. Klinger came off court No. 1 with a victory for ASU defeating Luscan, 6-4, 6-4, while Bowen defeated Florida State's Owen, 6-3, 6-3. ASU clinched the match on the No. 5 court when Stewart fought back after a first set loss to win the match over Herrera, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
DOUBLES ADVANTAGE: Arizona State has won the doubles point in eight of their 11 duals this year. They are a combined 22-8, including a 9-1 mark at the No. 3 slot. The 24th-ranked duo of Mitchell Bowen and Matt Klinger hold a 7-3 record at the No. 1 slot and an 8-3 overall record. At the No. 2 and 3 positions, 41st-ranked Olivier Charroin and Chris Stewart have yet to be knocked off with an unblemished 9-0 dual record and 10-0 overall.
HEAD COACH LOU BELKEN: In his 20th season as head coach, Lou Belken has produced 14 All-Americans, including NCAA singles champion and ATP professional Sargis Sargsian. Belken also becomes only the 12th coach (currently only the second active) in Arizona State athletic history to achieve the 20 season milestone. Belken, the 1999 Pacific-10 Conference Coach of the Year and Region VIII Coach of the Year, has guided the Sun Devils to NCAA postseason berths in 11 of the last 15 seasons, including a berth into the NCAA round of 16 in 1988, '90, '91 (quarterfinals), '95 and '99.
HOME SWEET HOME: Over the past five seasons, including a 6-2 record this year, Arizona State holds a 66-27 (.710) overall dual record at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Senior Mirza Duranovic has claimed 96 career singles victories ... senior Matt Klinger holds a .692 career winning percentage in singles, recording a 74-33 mark ... in its seven victories this year, ASU has outscored its opponents 44-5 ... ASU's next six duals are all on the road before returning home for its final three duals ...
