Dong Grabs 34th, 38th Place At NCAA Swim Championships

AUSTIN, Texas-- Washington State University sophomore Rachel Dong recorded the best finish by a Cougar swimmer at the 2002 NCAA Championships thus far with a 34th-place performance in the 100 butterfly, Friday.

Dong clocked a time of 55.07 seconds in the 100 butterfly, just off her school-record 54.75. The native of Paramount, Calif., also placed 38th in the 100 breaststroke, recording a time of 1:04.26. Dong holds second place in WSU history for the 100 breaststroke at 1:03.54.

Cougar sophomore Andree-Anne LeRoy also competed Friday, grabbing 40th place in the 400 individual medley at 4:25.69. LeRoy holds the WSU record for the event with a time of 4:21.67.

The NCAA Championships will conclude Saturday, with LeRoy competing in the 200 backstroke, another event in which she holds a school record.
