Wrestling Falls at NCAA Championships

Albany, NY - Stanford's two wrestlers still in action on the second day of competition were downed this morning in Session 3 of the 2002 Division I NCAA Wrestling Championships.
At 125, Freshman Nathan Peterson (Georgetown, IN/Floyd Central) was pinned by second-seeded Leroy Vega (Minnesota) at 2:25. Peterson completes the year with 22 wins and four pins. At 149, freshman Matt Gentry (Grants Pass, OR/North Valley) lost to George Mason's Adrian Austin in a 6-3 decision. Gentry finishes the year with a school record 35 wins by a freshman. He also notched four pins and led the team with 127.5 team points.
Minnesota took the team title with 126.5 points, while Iowa State's Cael Sanderson (197) helped the Cyclones to a second place finish as he completed his career at 159-0. Sanderson was named Outstanding Wrestler for the fourth straight year after becoming the first four-time undefeated Division I National Champion.

141 - Brad Metzler (0-2): lost to Nate Parker (Oklahoma), pinned at 0:57, lost to Brian Watson (Oregon), 5-2.
149 - Matt Gentry (1-2): lost to Jerrod Sanders (Oklahoma St.), 8-1, dec. Wayne Watts (Citadel), 11-5, lost to Adrian Austin (George Mason), 6-3.
157 - Levi Weikel-Magden (0-2): lost to Jeremy Reitz (Clarion), 9-7, lost to Gabe Webster (Cornell), tech. fall at 7:00, 19-4.
