Ducks Lose Third Game to Colorado State, 2-0

March 24, 2002

EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon softball team hosted Colorado State for the second day this weekend at Howe Field. In front of 203 fans, the Ducks were unable to sweep Colorado State three games in a row. Oregon had many opportunities, but was unable to score despite the two run deficit suffered early in the game.

The Rams came out strong starting the first inning with the bases loaded, but the Duck's strong defense held the Rams to no score. Colorado State got things started in the third inning with a shot down the right field line for a double. The Rams scored both of their runs in the third inning.

Oregon got a few chances in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but were unable to come up with a score. Andrea Vidlund started the sixth inning with a single to left field. Jenn Poore hit a shot down third base line for a double which advanced Vidlund to third. However, the Ducks hit into a double play and they were out of the inning with no score.

Freshman Ashley Richards and junior Andrea Vidlund led the Ducks both going 2-3 at the plate. Lindsey Kontra pitched a tough game only giving up five hits against the 29 batters she faced.

Oregon's next match will be on Tuesday March 26 at Howe Field. The Ducks will play host to UNLV starting the double header at 1 p.m.
