Four Gymnasts Earn Pac-10 Academic Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Four Oregon State gymnasts were among the athletes honored on the Pacific-10's All-Academic Team, which the conference announced Friday.
In order to be eligible for the team, athletes must have a minimum 3.00 overall grade point average, be a starter or significant reserve, and be in at least their second year at the school.
Lopez carries a 3.57 grade point average and is majoring in pre-communications. She earned second team honors for the first time after receiving honorable mention status the last two years. Lopez ranks 20th in the nation on floor exercise, and she leads the Beavers with a 9.882 average on that event. She had a career-high 9.975 on the event earlier this year, and she's also had career-highs of 9.925 on bars and 9.90 on beam this season.
Jillson, a junior liberal studies major, has a 3.33 GPA. She was also an honorable mention selection last season. Jillson ranks 11th in the nation on bars, and she's scored a 9.90 or better on the event seven times this year.
Nelson, a sophomore, is majoring in exercise and sport science and has s 3.49 GPA. Two weeks ago, she had a career-high 39.275 in the all-around and won her first collegiate event title with a career-high 9.925 on vault at that meet. She had a career-high 9.875 on bars at last week's Pac-10 Championships.
Yoder, a sophomore with a 3.03 GPA, has not yet decided on a major. She has competed on beam in every meet this season and has scored a season-high 9.85 twice, including at the Pac-10 Championships.
