Softball Drops 2-0 Decision To No. 14 Oregon State In Pac-10 Opener

March 29, 2002

CORVALLIS - Oregon State scored the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning and went on to win 2-0 over Oregon in the Pac-10 opener for both teams. Sophomore Anissa Meashintubby struck out five and walked five, but offensively Oregon had just two hits and couldn't spark its offense.

'We are a good ball club and we showed that today,' Oregon head coach Brent Rincon said. 'The difference was, they capitalized on opportunities and we didn't do that.'

Oregon State third baseman Clare Burnum walked in the bottom of the first inning and later stole second. Michelle Chariton singled in the Beavers' next at-bat and Brynnen Guthrie's double to center field scored both runners. It proved to be all Oregon State needed to improve to 28-9, 1-0 on the season.

For Oregon, Alyssa Laux and Lakeesha Eversley each finished the day with a hit.
