Cougar Tennis Heads To Arizona

April 4, 2002

The Washington State women's tennis team travels to the state of Arizona for two matches this weekend. The Cougars, ranked 28th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings, play at No. 11 Arizona State Friday and at No. 34 Arizona Saturday. Washington State is 9-6 this season.

'Arizona State is tough and Arizona is playing really well,' said Washington State Coach Cari Groce. 'We need to focus and win the big points against these teams. We'll need to step up and handle the pressure.'

The Cougars are anchored by Erica Perkins, a senior ranked 54th, and Stacy McKenna, a sophomore ranked 78th nationally. Combined they form the No. 15 doubles team, the highest ranking ever for a Cougar doubles team.

The Cougars next competition will be in Southern California against No. 7 UCLA (April 12) and No. 13 USC (April 13).
