Men's Golf Prepares For 56th Annual Western Intercollegiate

This Week:
The Stanford men's golf team will participate in the 56th Annual Western Intercollegiate hosted by San Jose State University on Monday and Tuesday, April 8-9, at the Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz. Par is 70 and the course will play to 6,445 yards with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:00 a.m. each day.

The Tournament Field:
A total of 17 schools will participate in the Western Intercollegiate this weekend: Stanford, Hawaii, Long Beach State, Oregon State, Pacific, Fresno State, Washington, San Jose State, Oregon, Kansas, Nevada, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UTEP, California, Santa Clara and Cal State Stanislaus.

Last Meet At The Oregon Duck Invitational:
The Cardinal finished fifth at the 25th Annual Oregon Duck Invitational with a three round total of 863 (289-282-292) at the par 72, 6738 yard Shadow Hills Country Club. Oregon took home the team title (849), followed by Washington State (850), UCLA (854), Nevada (861) and Stanford (863). Philip Rowe led the Cardinal with a two-day total of 213 (71-70-71) to tie for eighth place. Teammate Blake Mastalir finished one shot behind Rowe with a 214 (72-70-72) to tie for 11th. Jim Seki also had a strong showing, tying for 16th with a 216 (74-69-73). George Downing (220) and Kevin Blue (230) finished the tournament tied for 29th and 73rd, respectively. Pat Phillips competed individually and tied for 52nd with a three-round total of 225 (75-71-79). Washington State's Jon Reehoorn won the individual title with a 206 (70-69-67).

Last Year At The Western Intercollegiate:
Stanford finished in seventh place at last year's Western Intercollegiate. The Cardinal recorded a three-round total of 882 to tie with Pepperdine, while Oregon ran away with team title (850). Philip Rowe posted a seven-over par 217 for 15th place with rounds of 70-72-75. Jim Seki carded a 232 (75-78-79) to place 70th. Lars Johansson of San Diego State won a playoff over Pacific's Jason Higton for medalist recognition.

Up Next:
The Cardinal will travel to Phoenix to compete in the ASU/Savane Invitational on April 12-13. Stanford will then have a week to prepare for the Pac-10 Conference Championships, held at Oregon State University on April 22-24.
