THE LAST TIME OUTOregon opened Pac-10 play versus in-state rival Oregon State last weekend. The Ducks were unable to pick up their first conference victory of the season, being edged by the Beavers, 2-0 and 3-2. Oregon then hosted the Beavers April 2 in a continuation of a game that had been postponed because of snow March 16 and fell 1-0.

HEAD COACH BRENT RINCON Begninning his first year as the head coach at the University of Oregon, Brent Rincon (18-12 overall, 18-12 Oregon) brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the program. Originally coming to Oregon to serve as an assistant for the upcoming season, Rincon took over the program as interim head coach in the Fall of 2001 following the depature of previous head coach, Rick Gamez. Rincon has been involved in softball as both a high school coach and as a head coach of various elite ASA travel teams. A highly successful high school and ASA coach in Arizona, Rincon helped develop many players who went on to play at the Division I level. In addition to coaching in the high school and ASA ranks, Rincon was also selected to coach the Arizona High School All-Stars in 1996.

WELL ROUNDED OFFENSE Of the 15 Oregon players with an appearance at the plate this year, 13 have at least one hit, led by Andrea Vidlund (34) and Alyssa Laux (27). The Ducks are outhitting opponents 213-197 and are hitting .278 as a team.

RECORDS WATCH With her seventh home run of the season against Colorado State, Andrea Vidlund is eighth all time with 18 home runs. Triawn Custer holds the record with 35 career home runs (1998-2001). Pitcher Connie McMurren is currently second all-time with 403 strike outs. Rachelle Taylor holds the strike out record with 474. Vidlund also has 71 career RBI and needs just 11 RBI to break into the top 10 all-time at Oregon.

MORE McMURREN Connie McMurren pitched the first no-hitter of her career in a 5-0 win over UNLV March 26. It was the first no-hitter by an Oregon pitcher since Bethany Smith blanked Simon Fraser in 1998 and the 12th in school history.

YOUNG GUNS Freshman pitcher Lindsay Kontra has posted wins over then-No. 19 Southwest Texas State and then-No. 13 Alabama. Sophomore Anissa Meashintubby is 7-3 with a team-low 1.75 ERA. Meashintubby also leads Oregon with 60 strike outs and has pitched three of Oregon's five shut outs.

RUN PRODUCTION Through 30 games, Oregon has 114 RBI after having just 197 in all 68 games last season. Vidlund has accounted for a team-high 31 RBI this season after having a combined 40 in 2000 and 2001. Newcomer Lakeesha Eversley has 15 RBI and Jenn Poore has 13.
