Bruins Conclude Weekend Competition

San Diego, Calif. - The UCLA women's rowing team wrapped up competition at the 29th Annual San Diego Crew Classic today. The Bruins' Varsity 8 finished third in the Women's Cal Cup 3RD Finals, while the UCLA Novice 8 placed sixth in the Women's Collegiate Novice Grand Finals.
In the Women's Cal Cup 3RD Finals, the Bruins (7:14.60) crossed the line only five seconds behind the first place finisher, Purdue (7:09.67), and two seconds behind second place finisher, Temple (7:12.76), to place third in the competition. The Bruins finished ahead of UC Irvine (7:17.76), Orange Coast College (7:22.48), and Santa Clara (7:23.94). They last rowed against UC Irvine and Orange Coast College on March 23, at the Berg Cup, where Orange Coast College edged UCLA by one second to take second place. UCLA and UC Irvine place third and fourth for the Berg Cup, respectively.
The UCLA Novice 8 competed for the Sea World San Diego Trophy in the Women's Collegiate Novice Grand Final. The Bruin Novices claimed national recognition in collegiate rowing, qualifying for the Grand Finals for the first time in ten years. The UCLA Novice 8 (7:29.63), competing against some prominent rowing programs, finished sixth in the race. Washington State (6:59.20) won the event and captured the Sea World San Diego Trophy. Washington (7:02.79) followed in second, only one second behind the leader. Oregon State (7:02.70), Virginia (7:05.19), and Cal (7:05.52) rounded up the top five finishers in the final.
The Bruins return to action on Saturday, April 13, versus Loyola Marymount at 8:30 a.m.
