No. 18 Cal Tied for Fourth at Peg Barnard Collegiate

STANFORD, Calif. - The 18th-ranked California women's golf team is tied for fourth after the opening round of the Peg Barnard California Collegiate Saturday at Stanford Golf Course. The Golden Bears carded a 303 to stand deadlocked with San Jose State heading into Sunday's final round.

No. 19 Washington leads the 14-team tournament with an opening round of 297. No. 14 USC is second at 300, and Washington State is third at 301. The Bears continue to do well against ranked competition. No. 16 UCLA is tied for seventh (307) and No. 8 Arizona State is ninth (309).

San Jose State's Marcela Leon and WSU's Tasha Browner lead the individual race, both with scores of 72. Six golfers are one stroke back of the leaders.

Junior Vikki Laing and sophomore Claire Dury led Cal, shooting 75s to tie for 14th. Sophomore Sarah Huarte is also on pace for a top 20 finish, as she is tied for 19th at 76.

The tournament concludes tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
