UCLA Finishes Ninth At ASU Thunderbird Tournament

The UCLA men's golf team placed ninth at the ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational Saturday at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, AZ.

The Bruins recorded a 54-hole team total of 852, 12-under par. They finished one shot better than 10th place New Mexico and two shots behind eighth place BYU.

Texas won the event with a three-round total of 832, 32-under par. Arizona State captured second place with a score of 838, 26-under, followed by Pepperdine at 839.

Individually, sophomores John Merrick and Steve Conway each finished in a tie for 14th place at 210, six-under par. Both players shot two-under par 70 in the final round.

Senior Parker McLachlin tied for 38th at one-under par 215. Freshmen John Poucher and Breene Murphy tied for 57th and 72nd, respectively. Poucher posted a final round score of 70.

Bret Guetz of TCU earned medalist honors with a 16-under par score of 200. Texas' John Klauk finished second at 13-under par 203, followed by Oregon's Chris Carnahan at 205.
