Matt Brown Named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, CA - California sophomore right-hander Matt Brown was named Pacific-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday, Apr. 15 by the Pac-10. It was the second week in a row a Golden Bear pitcher has been named Pac-10 pitcher of the Week as senior Trevor Hutchinson earned the honor Apr. 8. It was also the 23rd Pitcher of the Week selection all-time for Cal.
Brown, who is usually Cal's closer and the Pac-10 leader in saves (six), threw his first career complete game this past Sunday, Apr. 14 against Arizona. He improved his record to 4-1 by pitching 9.0 innings with four hits, one run, only one walk, with a career-high 10 strikeouts against the Wildcats.
Brown has now won seven games in his Cal career and was the Pac-10 leader in saves last season with eight. He already has 14 career saves, tied for fourth with Joe Buckley (1986-89) on the Bears career saves list.
