Ducks Dominated By No.2 Bruins
LOS ANGELES, Calif.- The University of Oregon softball team lost to No.2 UCLA Bruins, 7-0 on Saturday afternoon. Errors were not the problem for the Ducks today. They were unable to connect the bats while UCLA outhit Oregon 10-4.
It looked as if the Ducks were going to score first in the top of the fourth inning when Lynsey Haij got things started with a single to left field. Andrea Vidlund reached base on a fielder's choice. Jenn Poore doubled to center advancing Vidlund to third. Oregon was unable to keep things going after two back to back strike outs. The Bruins broke things open in the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs off three hits.
Claire Sua crushed her eighth homer of the season in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run homer. Bruin pitcher Amanda Freed was awarded the shutout, while Senior Connie McMurren recorded the lose for Oregon. Freed had 11 strikeouts and giving up only four hits in seven innings of play. McMurren and Anissa Meashintubby combined for two strikeouts, giving up ten hits in seven innings.
UCLA improves to 39-6 overall, 7-3 Pac 10, while Oregon falls to 18-20, 0-11. Bruins will host Oregon again Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Easton Stadium.
