Stanford Competes At Pac-10 Conference Championships

This Week:
The Stanford men's golf team will participate in the 43rd Pacific-10 Conference Men's Golf Championships on April 25-27 at the Trysting Tree Golf Club (Par 72, 7022 yards) in Corvallis, Ore. Oregon State University is the Tournament host for the 72-hole Championships. A practice round will take place on Wednesday, April 24 before the tournament begins on Thursday morning. The opening two rounds are Thursday, the third round is on Friday, and the final round is scheduled for Saturday. Thursday's starting time is 7:30 a.m., with Friday and Saturday slated for an 8 a.m. start.

The Tournament Field:
As of April 18th, the Golfweek/Sagarin Index shows that seven Pac-10 teams are ranked in the Top-50, while all 10 teams are listed in the Top-100. USC is ranked No. 9, followed by No. 11 Washington. Arizona follows at No. 22, Washington State at No. 28, Oregon at No. 33, Arizona State at No. 44 and UCLA at No. 47. Stanford checks in at No. 61, followed by No. 63 California and No. 97 Oregon State.

Last Meet At U.S. Intercollegiate:
Senior Philip Rowe fired a 69 in the final round of the US Intercollegiate to win the individual title to lead the Stanford men's golf team to a second place finish at the Stanford Golf Course. The Cardinal finished the tournament with a total of 858, 10 shots behind team champion USC (848). Rowe took the title with a 205 and Blake Mastalir finished with a 217 to tie for 17th place. Teammate Ron Won was one shot behind Mastalir to tie for 23rd with a 218. Jim Seki carded a 222 to tie for 41st, while Kevin Blue tied for 55th with a 226. Pat Phillips, George Downing, Del de Windt and Brian Sinay all competed as individuals. Phillips tied for 48th (224), Downing 65th (228), de Windt 73rd (230) and Sinay 83rd (237).

Last Year At The Pac-10 Championships:
USC captured its first Pac-10 men's golf championship since 1986 with a 20-under 1400, four strokes ahead of second place finisher Arizona State. Arizona's Ricky Barnes took Pac-10 medalist honors with a 16-under 268. Stanford placed sixth (1438) and were led by Alex Aragon (279) and Jim Seki (286) who tied for seventh and 22nd, respectively.
