Three Women Advance to Finals; Men Eliminated at Pac-10 Championships

OJAI, Calif. - Raquel Kops-Jones and Christina Fusano advanced to the Pac-10 Championships' main doubles championship match Saturday, defeating USC's Tiffany Brymer and Jewel Peterson, 9-7. The Cal duo will face Arizona's Debbie Larocque and Maja Mlakar tomorrow afternoon in the finals.

In the women's singles invitational draw, Nicole Havlicek advanced to the finals by dropping Andren Coulter in a three set, 7-6, 1-6, 6-4 match. Havlicek will also have the chance to face Brymer tomorrow, as the two will play in the finals.

On the men's side of the competition, the Bears were eliminated from all the draws Saturday, as John Paul Fruttero and Robert Kowalczyk were bested in a tough 9-8 (5) match with UCLA's Marcin Matkowski and Jean-Julien Rojer. Balazs Veress and Patrick Briaud took on USC's Prakash Amritraj and Daniel Langre in the invitational draw doubles, but lost, 8-3.

Kops-Jones, who defeated Peterson in Saturday's doubles semi-final final, faced Peterson today in the singles semi-finals. Peterson got the best of Kops-Jones there, however, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
