WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Pacific-10 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the week of April 22-April 29:
MEN'S TRACK - Mike Hill, WASHINGTON. Hill was victorious at Drake Relays in the 3000 steeplechase. His time of 8:54.38 was a full two seconds ahead of his nearest competitor in the elite field. Hill currently ranks fourth in the nation and first in the Pac-10 with his season-best time of 8:46.92 . Hill is a senior from Bellevue, Wash.
MEN'S FIELD - Dan Ames, UCLA. Ames threw a season-best, NCAA automatic mark of 198-4 in the discus at the UCSD open. In the shot put, Ames was the second-highest collegiate finisher, placing fifth overall with a mark of 61-9. Ames is a sophomore from Lakeside, Calif.
WOMEN'S TRACK - Tiffany Burgess, UCLA. Burgess led a Bruin top-three sweep in the fifth section of the 800m at the UCSD open. Burgess time of 2:06.30 is an NCAA provisional mark and her second-fastest time this season. Burgess is a junior from Van Nuys, Calif.
WOMEN'S FIELD - Tracy O'Hara, UCLA. O'Hara won the pole vault competition at the UCSD open with a mark of 14-3 1/4. The NCAA automatic mark leads the U.S collegiate list and becomes O'Hara's best jump of the outdoor season. O'Hara is a senior from San Diego, Calif..
