Home Runs, Finch Pitching Beats Cal, 3-0

TUCSON - Home runs by Lovie Jung and Leneah Manuma in a three-run thirdinning propelled Arizona to a 3-0 victory over California in collegesoftball Friday night.

A crowd of 2,261 watched Arizona pitcher Jennie Finch settle down after abit of early trouble and throw hitless ball for the final five innings toearn her 28th victory of the year.

California (45-17 overall and 9-7 in Pac-10 play) loaded the bases in thefirst but came up empty on the scoreboard. Kaleo Eldridge reached oncatcher's interference, Kristen Morley hit into a fielder's choice, CandaceHarper singled and Veronica Nelson walked. But Finch struck out CourtneyScott and got Jesssica Pamanian to pop to third.

A one-out single by Mikella Pedretti and a walk by Kristen Bayless gaveCal another runner in scoring position in the second inning.Finch gotEldridge to fly out and Morley singled, but UA left fielder CourtneyFossatti gunned down pinch-runner Forrest at the plate.

Cal's Jocelyn Forest , who had thrown a one-hitter in beating Arizona,2-1, in Berkeley April 21, held the Cats hitless for two inings, butshortstop Lovie Jung greeted her with a home run, her 15th of the year, tolead off the Arizona third.

Courtney Fossatti singled on the next pitch and an out later Leneah Manumahit her 18th homer, a towering shot a half-dozen feet shy of the 45-footfacade of Ina Gittings Gym about 35 feet beyond the right-field fence tomake it 3-0.That chased Forest and the Bears brought on Cassie Bobrow.

Arizona improved to 46-7 overall and 13-3 in league action. UA playsStanford Saturday and Sunday to close its home season. The Bears travel toASU for games Saturday and Sunday.

NOTES... Manuma's home run was her first since March 30... Finch tossed her17th shutout of the year... The two home runs gave the Cats' 82 on theseason...
