Cats Stomp Stanford, 6-1

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona banged out nine hits including three home runs, andAll-American Jennie Finch held the Cardinal to two as the Cats beat No. 8Stanford, 6-1, in college softball action Sunday afternoon.
Finch struck out eight and won her 29th game against two defeats on UA'sSenior Day. The Cats had the bases loaded loaded with two outs in thebottom of the first with three walks off Stanford pitcher Maureen Lecocq(16-7), but came up empty.
UA designated player Jenny Gladding led off the Wildcat second with anopposite field home run to left, her 11th of the year, to give UA a 1-0lead. An out later Crystal Farley singled, moved to third on Lovie Jung'ssingle, and scored on a sacrifice hit by Courtney Fossatti to make it 2-0.
Leneah Manuma drew a walk to lead off the Arizona third, and MackenzieVandergeest blasted her 12th home run of the year to make it 4-0.
Fossatti walked with one out in the fourth and moved to third when Finchhit an infield single and the throw sailed wide at first. After Manumastruck out, pinch-runner Alysson Von Lichtenstein moved to second on a wildpitch and Vandergeest walked to load the bases. Lecocq got Jackie Coburn tofly out and end the threat.
Second baseman Kira Ching got the first hit off Finch, hitting an oppositefield single into the gap in right center to lead off the SU fourth.
Candace Abrams drew a walk off Cardinal reliever Elzabeth Bendigpinch-hitting for Vandergeest in the sixth, and Coburn followed with her13th home run of the year to push the score to 6-0.
Stanford's Jessica Mendoza singled to lead off the Cardinal seventh, movedto third on successive ground outs, then scored on a wild pitch to giveStanford its only run.
Arizona improved to 48-7 overall and 15-3 in Pacific-10 Conference play.The Cardinal dropped to 40-16 and 5-13.
