Oregon Twilight Welcomes All-Star Women's Steeplechase

EUGENE - After welcoming the nation's top women's steeplechasers last season to the NCAA and USA Championships, Hayward Field again plays host to an all-star field in the Oregon Twilight, Saturday, May 11.

Last year's U.S. champion, Lisa (Karnopp) Nye (9:49.91 PR) headlines a field that includes last year's third-place finisher Kelly MacDonald (9:55.49 PR, and a Tualatin, Ore., native), and other 2001 USA finalists Tonya Dodge (10:10.83), Jennifer Michel (10:11.65) and Melissa Bouren (10:35.28 PR).

In return for their efforts, the top three placers will receive prize money from the Oregon Track Club.

  • Lisa (Karnopp) Nye, Nike - 2001 U.S. Champion and then American record holder (PR 9:49.91), Second-ranked in U.S. in 2001 (9:49.91); 2002 U.S. XC Champs (4K-16th); 1991 Duck XC All-American (third)

  • Kelly MacDonald, Unat. (Tualatin HS, Tualatin, Ore., ASU '01) - Took third in 2001 USA Champs (PR 9:55.49); 2001 NCAA All-American (third-5K, 16:03.57; third-steeple, 9:55.87); 2000 NCAA XC All-American (36th), and participant in 1998 (134th) & 2001 (56th); Fourth-ranked in U.S. in 2002 with season debut in Tempe (10:10.8, 3/22);

  • Tonya Dodge, Syracuse Chargers - 12th-ranked in U.S. in 2001 with mark from Oregon Twilight (third, PR 10:10.83); 11th-ranked in USA in 2002 (10:16.0) with mark from Mt. SAC Relays (4/19)

  • Jennifer Michel, Western State (Colo.), Took ninth in 2001 USA Champs (PR 10:11.65), 15th-ranked in U.S. in 2001 (PR 10:11.65); 18th-ranked in U.S. in 2002 with season best of 10:27.4 from Tempe (3/22)

  • Briana Shook, University of Toledo - 38th-ranked in U.S. in 2001 (10:31.15); Took 64th in 2001 NCAA XC Champs; 10th-ranked among collegians and Americans in 2002 (PR 10:16.06, 4/25)

  • Melissa Bouren, Took 14th in 2001 U.S. Champs (10:36.58); 44th-ranked in U.S. in 2001 (PR 10:35.28 USA prelims)

  • Sarah Vergote, University of Toledo - 24th-ranked among D1 collegians in 2002 (10:37.84).
