Nicks, Ertler Selected For Olympic Development Team

May 6, 2002

Oregon State women's soccer players Jillian Nicks and Melena Ertler have been selected to play for the Region IV Olympic Development Team this summer.

Nicks, a freshman forward, and Ertler, a freshman defender, will travel to Moscow, Idaho, for the 18-player team camp during the first week of July. Athletes from the regional squad are eligible to be selected for the mini national camp this February.

'I'm excited for both of them,' OSU coach Steve Fennah said. 'This is an excellent opportunity for them to compete with and against some of the best players on the West Coast.'

Both Nicks and Ertler made significant contributions last year in their debut seasons, playing in all 20 games.

Nicks, from Issaquah, Wash., was third on the team in scoring with 15 points on six goals and three assists.

Ertler, a native of Gresham, Ore., was a mainstay in a defensive unit that combined for three shutouts and held opponents to 1.2 goals per game.

Oregon State kicks off its season at the Florida State tournament Aug. 30-Sept. 1, where it will face top-20 programs FSU and Wake Forest.
