Bruin Men Ranked No. 6 in the Nation

Art Venegas' Bruin men's team is No. 6 in the U. S. (the Bruin women this week are ranked No. 1). It's the highest ranking for the UCLA men this season. The No. 1 team is Tennessee, the defending NCAA Outdoor champion.

This week, the Bruins will compete at the Oxy Invitational, Modesto Relays and Pac-10 Multi-Events. On Saturday, May 4 at Drake Stadium, UCLA defeated USC 121-81 in the annual dual meet.

Other Pac-10 teams in this week's Trackwire men's Top 25 are: No. 8 Stanford and No. 24 (tie) Oregon and USC. The upcoming Pac-10 T & F Championships will be held in Pullman, WA, May 18-19.

The Trackwire Top 25 is a power ranking of NCAA Div. I T & F teams. The ranking's methodology takes into account a variety of statistical predictors and is intended to project the outcome of the NCAA Div. I Outdoor T & F Championships. The scores provided with the rankings indicate each team's projected score based on form charts for each NCAA event.

In the IAAF/USATF national poll, Team Power Ranking, the Bruins are No. 2 (370.16) behind No. 1 Tennessee (374.49). Rounding out the Top-5 are No. 3 Florida (364.28), No. 4 Nebraska (360.76) and No. 5 Arizona State (358.21). Team Power Ranking is based upon individual marks and dual meet strength.

The 2002 NCAA Div. I Outdoor T & F championships will be held May 29-June 1 in Baton Rouge, LA.
