Carter & Klaic Garner All-Pac-10 Acclaim

May 7, 2002

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington sophomore Claire Carter and junior Darija Klaic were honorable mention selections on the All-Pac-10 women's tennis team, conference commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday.

Carter is ranked 84th nationally with an 18-14 singles record. She was an All-American and a second-team all-conference honoree in 2001.

Klaic is ranked No. 54 with a 13-11 singles ledger. She is the second alternate for the NCAA singles championships.

The two Huskies form the nation's 23rd-ranked doubles tandem. They will compete in the 32-team NCAA doubles championships beginning May 20 at Stanford.

Washington (13-10) makes its sixth straight NCAA championship appearance Friday in Los Angeles with a first-round matchup against Loyola Marymount (14-10). The victor plays Saturday against the winner of the other regional match involving host UCLA and Southern University. The Bruins are ranked fifth while Washington is No. 23 and Loyola No. 59.

Saturday's winner claims the regional title and advances to the 16-team NCAA finals, May 16-19 at Stanford.

At the NCAA regionals, Carter will play in the No. 1 singles position for the Huskies while Klaic completes in the No. 2 slot. Together they form the team's No. 1 doubles duo.
