Kathy Cho Shoots First Round 75 at NCAA West Regional

EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon senior Kathy Cho shot a 3-over 75 in the first round of the NCAA West Regional women's golf tournament Thursday at the Stanford Golf Course. Cho had five bogeys and three birdies and is tied for 17th place with eight other golfers entering round two, which will be played Friday afternoon.

Cho, from Honolulu, Hawaii, opened her round with a birdie on the first hole, but then gave strokes back with bogeys on the second, fourth and ninth to make the turn at 38. She struggled early in the back nine with bogeys on 11 and 13, but closed with four pars and a birdie.

Pepperdine's Katherine Hull shot a 3-under 69 to take the opening round lead. Lorena Ochoa of Arizona and Kristi Larson of New Mexico were tied for second at 2-under.

Hull helped Pepperdine grab the first-round lead at 1-over 289. UCLA was second at 296, California was third at 297 and Arizona was fourth at 299.

The top eight teams and two individuals from the West Regional qualify for the NCAA Championships May 21-24 at Auburn, Wash.
