Bruin Women No. 1 in the Nation

Jeanette Bolden's Bruin women's track and field team is ranked No. 1 in the nation (the Bruin men are No. 10). Rounding out the Top 5 are No. 2 South Carolina (74), No. 3 USC (67 points), No. 4 LSU (55 points) and No. 5 Nebraska (29).

This week, the Bruins aim to capture their sixth consecutive Pac-10 title in Pullman, WA. Other Pac-10 teams in this week's Trackwire women's Top 25 are: No. 7 Arizona, No. 13 Oregon, No. 14 (tie) Washington State, No. 18 (tie) Stanford and No 21 (tie) Cal.

The Trackwire Top 25 is a power ranking of NCAA Div. I T & F teams. The ranking's methodology takes into account a variety of statistical predictors and is intended to project the outcome of the NCAA Div. I Outdoor T & F Championships. The scores provided with the rankings indicate each team's projected score based on form charts for each NCAA event.

In the IAAF/USATF national poll, Team Power Ranking, the Bruins are No. 1 (408.52 points). Rounding out the Top-5 are No. 2 UNC-Chapel Hill (383.37 points), No. 3 Arkansas (365.54 points), No. 4 Nebraska (363.07 points) and No. 5 BYU (362.8 points). Team Power Ranking is based upon individual marks and dual meet strength.

The 2002 NCAA Div. I Outdoor T & F championships will be held May 29-June 1 in Baton Rouge, LA. For the last five consecutive seasons, the Bruin women have placed in the top three at the NCAA Outdoor (2001, 2nd; 2000, 3rd; 1999, 2nd; 1998, 2nd; 1997, 3rd).
