THE PAC ATTACKS MOOBERRY TRACK: The Mooberry Track Complex at Washington State University is the site for the Pacific-10 Conference Track & Field Championships, May 18-19 ... nine conference schools (Oregon State does not offer track) will compete in the two-day meet with the team champions being crowned Sunday at 5 p.m ... Stanford is the defending men's title holder while UCLA edged out USC in 2001 by two points for the women's conference crown ... the Cougar women placed fourth last year and the WSU men tied for seventh ... athlete entry declarations are not due until Wed., May 15 ... the event schedule and ticket information is posted below ... results will be posted at the WSU Athletics homepage,

RICHARDSON NAMED PAC-10 FEMALE ATHLETE OF WEEK: After repeating as Pac-10 Heptathlon champion, scoring a school record, Mooberry Track record and NCAA-leading 5,281 points, WSU's Ellannee Richardson was named the Pac-10 Female Track & Field Athlete of the Week ... the redshirt junior from Gladstone, Ore., is a two-time All-American in the heptathlon ... she was named to the 2002 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Track & Field honorable mention team last month ... Richardson is expected to compete in five more events at this weekend's Pac-10 Track & Field Championships.

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 29th season with the Cougar track program (eighth year as a head coach, seventh year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program)...Sloan, was selected the United States Track Coaches Association West Region Men's Coach of the Year for the 2002 indoor season ... this is the second consecutive year Sloan has been named the men's coach of the year ... he was honored as the regional women's coach of the year for both 1999 and 2000 ... Sloan is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell, and assistant coaches Dr. James Li, Mark Macdonald, Kris Grimes, and Francesca Green...volunteer coaches are Dan O'Brien and Bernard Lagat.

RANKINGS: In the May 14, Trackwire Top 25, the Washington State women's team is tied for 16th (Indiana, Miami) ... the men are not ranked ... Trackwire, an online service, uses the weekly rankings to project the outcome of the 2002 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships ... in the USTCA Team Power Rankings as of May 14, the Cougar women are eighth and the men are 14th ... the Team Power Rankings are dual meet predictors and demonstrate team depth.

COUGAR TRACK & FIELD HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK: While Ellannee Richardson captured her second Pac-10 heptathlon championship in as many years, Cicely Clinkenbeard stepped up and reached an NCAA provisional qualifying total of 5,456 points for third place at the conference hep meet ... Clinkenbeard leaped a PR of 19-11 3/4 (6.09m) to win the long jump competition and moved to the sixth spot in the Pac-10 rankings this week ... Steve Dwyer finished third in the decathlon with a total of 7,197 points ... at the Moscow McDonald's outdoor meet, Sam Lightbody reached a Pac-10 qualifying mark in the discus with his throw of 166-6 (50.76m) and Rick Collins cleared a lifetime-best in the pole vault at 16-10 3/4 (5.15m) ... Tamara Gulley clocked a 13.99 time in the 100m hurdles at the Modesto Relays, ninth best in conference standings.
