PULLMAN, Wash. --- The Washington State soccer team's quest for a second trip to the NCAA Tournament in three years begins Aug. 30 at the Montana Diadora Cup, head coach Dan Tobias announced Wednesday.
'We feel we have put together a very competitive non-conference schedule,' Tobias said. 'We are very excited and focused on the 2002 season.'
The 19-match slate is preceded by an exhibition with Eastern Washington in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Aug. 24, then officially begins with a pair of contests at the Diadora Cup against Minnesota and Montana in Missoula, Mont., Aug. 30 and Sept. 2.
In other non-conference action, the Cougars host Idaho, Utah, Gonzaga, and Brigham Young, and travel to face Cal Poly, San Jose State, Pepperdine, and Loyola Marymount.
Pac-10 play begins Oct. 11 and 13, with matches against Oregon State and Oregon on the road. The following week, WSU will play a rare Saturday contest against Washington in Pullman. The home team has won the last five meetings between the in-state rivals.
California powers Stanford, California, USC, and UCLA will all come to the Palouse, while WSU travels to the desert to face Arizona and Arizona State.
