Cardinal In 19th Place After Second Round Of NCAA West Regional

Albuquerque, N.M. - The Stanford men's golf team shot a 297 to stand in 19th place with a total of 600 after the second round of the 2002 NCAA West Regional on the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course this afternoon. Only one stroke separates the top three teams, with UNLV at the top of the leaderboard with a 582. Fresno State (583) and Washington (584) stand in second and third place, respectively.

Blake Mastalir leads the Cardinal after firing a one-over 73 in the second day of competition to tie for 47th with a 149 (76-73). Philip Rowe (74-76) and Jim Seki (77-73) are eached tied for 60th place with a 150. Teammates Kevin Blue (78-75) and Ron Won (76-77) are three shots behind Rowe and Seki with a 153 to tie for 87th.

Ricky Barnes of Arizona leads the individual leaderboard with a two round total of 137. Four athletes carded scores of 142 to tie for second place.

Stanford will continue play tomorrow in the final round on the par-72, 7368-yard Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque.
