Softball Places Two Players On NCAA All-Regional Tournament Team

May 19, 2002

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Senior Crystal Draper and junior Brynnen Guthrie were named to the NCAA Softball All-Regional Tournament team on Sunday, for their efforts in Oregon State's four postseason games.

Draper, a pitcher, earned her third All-Regional Tournament honor after gaining accolades during 1999 and 2000. She made three appearances in Iowa City, while allowing just one earned run and boasting a 0.40 ERA. Draper struckout 17 batters in 17.2 innings of work and allowed opposing batters to hit just .161. The ultimate postseason competitor, Draper registered 62 of her OSU record 209 career strikeouts in Regional Tournament action. Draper finished her Beaver career by striking out two of the final three batters she faced in OSU's elimination game against Notre Dame on Saturday.

Guthrie, a second baseman, garners her first All-Regional Tournament honors after ranking first in the tourney field with a .455 batting average (5-for-11) and boasting a .500 on base percentage. Guthrie, the Beavers' most consistent hitter on the season, went a perfect 2-for-2 against Wisconsin in the tournament opener and helped in OSU's victory against Notre Dame with a 2-for-3 mark from the plate.
