Freshmen Matt Gentry and Brad Metzler Named to All-Rookie Team

Stanford, Calif. - Amateur Wrestling News released its annual All-Rookie team in the May issue and named Stanford freshmen Matt Gentry (Grants Pass, OR/North Valley) and Brad Metzler (Omaha, NE/Westside) to the team. Both earned NCAA berths for the Cardinal in their first varsity season. The Amateur Wrestling News All-Rookie team is comprised of the top 6 freshmen nationally in each weight class.
Gentry, the Pac-10's Newcomer of the Year, continued to collect his postseason accolades after an impressive 35-win season with a Pac-10 runner-up finish at 149 pounds. Gentry was also named an Academic All-America honorable mention. (Teammate senior Levi Weikel-Magden (Boardman, OR/Riverside) was also granted honorable mention status).
Metzler, after fighting through a case of mononucleosis and a knee injury during the 2001-02 season, finished the year with 16 victories and a fourth place conference finish at 141 pounds.
