Stasiulionyte Places Second In Javelin At NCAA Track & Field Championships

Javelin-Sophomore Inga Stasiulionyte, the Pac-10 record holder and lastyear's NCAA champion in this event, threw 177-0 to finish second to Purdue'sSerene Ross, who broke the American record with a throw of 195-8.Stasiulionyte scored eight points for the Women of Troy and now has scored18 points in her career at the NCAA meet.

Long Jump-Senior Tatyana Obukhova jumped 19-10 � to place 14th in the longjump. Obukhova will compete in the triple jump on Saturday, in which shetook third at last year's NCAAs.

Track Prelims

100m Hurdles-Senior Natasha Neal advanced to Friday's 100m hurdlessemifinalsby running a season-legal-best 13.30 to finish third in heat two of thepreliminaries of this event.

400m-Junior Nakiya Johnson ran 52.60 in heat two and did not advance to thefinals of the 400m.

100m-Angela Williams completed the first step in her quest for anunprecedented fourth 100m title, clocking 11.39 to win heat two and advanceto Friday's semifinals. Her teammate Natasha Mayers also advanced, winningthe third heat in a time of 11.36.

Angela Williams: 'I felt really relaxed. I was just running to win the raceand make it to the next round. I wanted to run a smart race. I'm workingonthe last part of my race, which is going to be very important for the final.That's going to make or break whether I win the championship this year.'

Natasha Mayers: 'I was really concentrating on making it through this heat.I feel really good. I love the weather and hopefully I will be able to runafaster time in the final.'

4 x 400m relay-USC's relay squad of Natasha Neal, Kinshasa Davis, AleksandraPieluzek and Nakiya Johnson ran a season-best 3:31.86 (sixth on the all-timeUSC chart) to finish second in heat two and advance to Saturday's final.


Track Prelims

110m HH-Junior Ryan Wilson, who finished third in this event at last year'sNCAA meet, won heat three in a time of 13.74 to advance to Friday'ssemifinals of the 110m HH.
