UCLA Men's Golf Coach Brad Sherfy Resigns
June 7, 2002
UCLA Men's Golf Coach Brad Sherfy will step down from his position effective June 30, the athletic department announced Friday.
Sherfy, who led the Bruins to six tournament titles in his seven seasons and an eighth-place finish at the 1998 NCAA Championships, will resign his post and devote more time to his family and teaching duties.
'I believe I have turned the program around,' said Sherfy, who was voted the 1998 Pac-10 Coach of the Year. 'It is poised to be a national contender and I feel good about it.'
In Sherfy's seven seasons, the Bruins qualified for the NCAA Championships three times and sent individuals two other years, including 2002. This year sophomore John Merrick tied for 23rd nationally, playing as an individual qualifier.
In addition, Sherfy coached three All-Americans and two Academic All-Americans during his tenure.
