Women's Track Signs JC Heptathlete Abby Andrus

June 10, 2002

EUGENE - The University of Oregon women's track and field team announced its first signee of the 2002-03 newcomer class, heptathlete Abby Andrus.

The transfer from Paradise Valley Junior College in Phoenix, Ariz., will be a junior for the Ducks next season. In 2002, she took second in the heptathlon in the National Junior College Championships with a score of 4,903 points.

Her individual best marks are 14.44 in the 100 hurdles, 5-7 in the high jump, 18-10 3/4 in the long jump, 112-2 in the javelin, 2:22.04 in the 800, and 62.71 in the 400 hurdles.

'We are excited that Abby is coming to Oregon next year,' said Mark Stream, Oregon assistant coach and heptathlon coach. 'She will provide our team with solid performances in the jumps and hurdles. She has a great work ethic, and I believe that she will continue to improve at Oregon. She will be a solid scorer in the heptathlon for us at the Pac-10 meet, with the potential of being a national qualifier next year.'

The Duck women's track and field team will be experience-heavy next season and graduates only two seniors from this year's squad - Daisy Pressley and Jenny Kenyon - and returns 16 juniors, 9 sophomores and 16 freshmen from this season's roster.
